The verdict

JetBrains AI began the window as a fair-use product. The 2 December 2024 pricing page priced JetBrains AI Pro at $10.00 a month or $100.00 a year for individuals ($20/$200 commercial), with no Ultimate tier, and the 7 December 2024 licensing page described the quota as "dynamically evaluated" rather than "a strict limit", reset weekly, and extended by support on request — a meter that did not bite. The 2025.1 release hardened it: the 16 April 2025 FAQ introduced AI Free, AI Pro and AI Ultimate with a monthly cloud quota and stated that when it is used up "cloud-powered features are paused until your quota resets … or until you upgrade", with no way to buy more. On 14 August 2025 JetBrains announced a re-denomination starting 18 August, then moved the start to 25 August by editing the same post (Wayback copies of 14 and 24 August 2025): each subscription gets AI Credits equal to its price (AI Ultimate $30 carries $35), one credit equals USD 1.00, top-ups last 12 months, and "quotas for some plans are getting smaller". Docs archived 25 August 2025 list AI Free 3, AI Pro 10, AI Ultimate 35 credits per 30 days. The 10 October 2026 capture shows the same prices and allowances; cloud features pause at zero until renewal or a top-up.

What changed

No dated repricing events are itemized for JetBrains in this edition's log (the pricing history is in the verdict above). New moves are added to the change log as they're captured.

Where it's headed

With the meter now dollar-pegged and topped up by hand, the obvious next step is an opt-in auto top-up (billed overage) and the still-pending Enterprise credit figures; JetBrains has said it is "still rethinking the AI quota model" for Enterprise.
