The short version It was born usage-priced, standing beside the seat business rather than replacing it.

The verdict

Kiro did not exist in January 2025. AWS introduced it on 14 July 2025 as a free preview "with some limits"; the pricing page captured the same day showed "coming soon" tiers — Free with 50 agentic interactions a month, Pro $19 for 1,000, Pro+ $39 for 3,000. Before anything was billed the model was rebuilt: on 1 August 2025 the tiers became Pro $20, Pro+ $40 and Power $200 with separate vibe and spec allocations and overage at $0.04 per vibe and $0.20 per spec request. Paid plans went live on 15 August 2025 with overage as an opt-in, or "usage pauses at your monthly limit". A metering bug made August and September free. On 15 September 2025 the two request types were merged into one credit pool — 1,000 / 2,000 / 10,000 credits, overage $0.04 per credit — with billing from 1 October 2025. Pro Max ($100, 5,000 credits) followed on 11 June 2026, and between 22 June and 10 July 2026 individual tiers swapped pay-per-use overage for prepaid add-on packs ($0.04 per credit, $5 for 125 credits up to $100), leaving month-end overage to Enterprise admins. That split model stands at the 10 October 2026 capture.

What changed

No dated repricing events are itemized for Kiro in this edition's log (the pricing history is in the verdict above). New moves are added to the change log as they're captured.

Where it's headed

Having pulled individuals back from opt-in overage to prepaid packs while Enterprise keeps metered overage, the next change is more likely a burn-rate move — credit multipliers per model, as with the GPT-5.6 cut — than another rung change for individuals.
