The verdict

In January 2025 Topaz sold its apps as perpetual licences: the pricing page archived 14 January 2025 read "Buy any Topaz product once, own your version for life" (Video AI $299, Photo AI $199, Gigapixel $99) and carried no credits. Cloud rendering was priced by usage on the Cloud Credits page: on 22 December 2024 a one-time 200-credit pack for $50 ($0.250 per credit) and an optional "Subscribe and save" ladder from 80 credits/$9.99 to 50,000/$1,999.99; by 14 February 2025 packs of 20/400/1,000/3,000/9,000 credits cost $5/$78/$158/$399/$999 and the subscription ran $9.99 (80) to $499.99 (9,000). A licence was required, but no licence included credits; usage was the price (per_action). The priced unit was then pulled into a seat: between 15 and 18 September 2025 the pricing page replaced the perpetual grid with "Topaz Studio" ($69/month, or $33/month billed annually, $399, with "300 monthly video cloud credits") and Studio Pro ($75/month on an annual commitment, or $67/month billed annually, $799, with 600), and the Cloud Credits page added "*App subscription required". The 10 October 2026 capture holds that shape: included credits "expire at the end of each month and do not roll over", packs and credit subscription unchanged, exhaustion unstated (soft).

What changed

No dated repricing events are itemized for Topaz Labs in this edition's log (the pricing history is in the verdict above). New moves are added to the change log as they're captured.

Where it's headed

With the meter now inside a seat and packs still priced at $0.111–0.250 per credit, the next pressure point is the gap between included credits and a Starlight render (6–150 credits per minute of output); expect a stated auto-refill or an overage toggle on the Studio plans rather than a return to credit-only pricing.
