Moved across the continuum this window — pattern: Incumbent bolt-on.

The short version A usage meter was bolted onto a seat you already pay for — the subscription is no longer the whole bill.

The verdict

Abacus.AI's ChatLLM entered 2025 as a flat per-seat product: a single Teams plan at $10/user, all top models, no visible meter — Wayback snapshots through September 2025 still show only the flat plan. Over late 2025 Abacus bolted a credit meter on top of the seat and split the product into Basic and Pro tiers, with the billing FAQ first archived December 2025. Today the meter bites: spend the monthly credit pool and premium models are gated until you buy another credit pack (purchased credits roll over), while a fallback set of cheaper models stays usable without limits. There is no auto-billed overage — the only way past the ceiling is to buy more. That is a textbook bolt-on landing at hard allotment, one rung right of where we first placed it.

What changed

  • Dec 1, 2025 · Meter adopted · Credit/'compute points' meter and a Basic ($10/mo, 20,000 credits) vs Pro ($20/mo, +~5,000 ≈ 25,000 credits) split are documented in the official billing FAQ; credits reset monthly, premium models consume them while a set of cheaper models stays unlimited, and a '75% usage' message paces spend across the month. (Pro allotment later rebased to ~30,000 on the live 2026 page.) (archive)

Where it's headed

The escape valve is buy-another-pack, and the rung's gravity points toward auto-billed overage as agent usage scales. Near term, expect continued retuning of the unpublished per-model credit rates rather than a clean rung jump.
