Held one rung all window — pattern: Credit burn-rate reprice.

The short version The sticker barely moved — but the meter did. The same work costs more than it used to.

The verdict

Make was and remains a hard-allotment automation product — buy a monthly bucket of operations, and scenarios stop when it empties. The dollar price held flat; the credit burn rate moved. On August 27, 2025 Make renamed "operations" to "credits" at 1:1, but the new unit consumes at variable, model-driven rates for AI-native modules, so an AI-heavy workflow now drains the same allowance faster — the classic stealth reprice. Make softened it on November 6, 2025 (bring-your-own-API-key on all paid plans, lifted ceilings, a unified 25% extra-credit surcharge) — and that BYO-key escape hatch is the tell: Make knows its own AI rates burn fast.

What changed

  • Nov 6, 2025 · Price change · Per official help center: as of Nov 6, 2025 extra credits carry a 25% surcharge vs in-plan credits (previously manual extra purchases had no surcharge; auto-purchase was +30%). Separately, operations were replaced by credits as the billing unit ('As of August 27'; 1 op = 1 credit, prices unchanged).
  • Aug 27, 2025 · Credit burn-rate repricing · Make replaced 'operations' with 'credits' as the billing unit at a 1:1 conversion with no change to plan price; standard modules stayed 1 credit/run, but AI-native modules and code execution now consume credits at variable rates (Make Code = 2 credits/sec; Make AI Provider tiers e.g. 5,000 tokens/credit small, 3,500 medium, 1,500 large) — same dollar price, higher credit burn for AI/code work.

Where it's headed

Hard allotment with a manual extra-credit surcharge; the rung's gravity points toward automatic overage. Near term, expect further per-module credit-cost tuning as AI steps proliferate.
