The verdict

n8n Cloud walked one rung rightward during 2025. In January 2025 it sat at a hard allotment: tiers were gated by both a monthly execution count and an active-workflow ceiling (Starter, Pro, Enterprise; no Business plan), and exceeding the cap meant upgrading — no overage. On August 7, 2025 n8n announced a platform-wide repricing that scrapped the workflow, step, and user limits, repriced purely on executions, added a Business plan, and introduced auto-billed overage; the August 31 snapshot and the live page confirm it — workflows keep running and overage is automatically invoiced 45 days later. A separate AI Workflow Builder credit (launched October 2025) is its own hard-allotment sub-meter, but the headline execution meter governs: hard to metered overage.

What changed

  • Aug 7, 2025 · Policy change · Official 'new pricing' announcement: removed active-workflow/step/user limits ('unlimited workflows, steps, and users'), repriced the entire platform purely on workflow executions, and introduced the Business plan — shifting the gate from a workflow-count ceiling to a pure execution meter.

Where it's headed

The execution-overage model looks settled; watch instead whether the bundled AI Workflow Builder credit gains its own top-up or overage path rather than staying a hard sub-meter.
